For parents of children who struggle to learn in an international school setting, finding effective intervention can be a challenge. The Discovery Center at Hillcrest School is one answer to this challenge. Started in 1992 by a mother with a child with learning difficulties, the Discovery Center is based on the National Institute of Learning Development program out of Norfolk, VA, USA. NILD has over 1000 active programs in 46 countries.
Students are evaluated at the request of parents and/or teachers. From the results, an individualized, educational therapy plan is designed to stimulate cognitive functioning. Students’ areas of weakness are strengthened twice a week through one-on-one intensive and interactive stimulation. Over a period of time, the student begins to function independently in their learning.
Students in all grades can and do benefit from the intervention.
