All students must complete 24 credit hours to receive the Hillcrest diploma. The following credits must be included:
4 --- English credits
3 --- Math credits (including some form of Algebra and Geometry)
2 --- Science credits (one from each of the physical and life sciences)*
2 ½ --- Social Studies credits (including World History, one year of US, Canadian, or African History, or one year of high school History from the student’s home country, and one semester of US Govt. – required for American citizens only)
1 --- Associated Arts credit (Art, Music, Home Economics or Industrial Arts)
1 --- Physical Education credit (normally during the 9th and 10th grade years)
½ -- Computer Applications credit (This credit can be waived for students who demonstrate proficiency in these computer skills.) **
½ -- Religious Studies credit is required each semester at Hillcrest.
½ -- Health credit is required if the student is in attendance during 9th grade.
½ -- Careers credit is required if the student is in attendance during the 11th grade.
* The science teacher has the prerogative to waive the Physical Science course for students who transfer or return from furlough, based on performance or interview with the student. If the student does not take the Physical Science course, he/she will need to take a life science and one other Science.
** The keyboarding high school graduation requirement is: 30 AWPM (adjusted words per minute) with 95% accuracy. For those entering high school who have not met the 30 AWPM at 95% accuracy required, a maximum of one year keyboarding tutorial will be required.
Hillcrest requires students to complete 8 semesters (4 years) of an accredited high school or post high school to graduate.
